SAUMUR-CHAMPIGNY CLOS DE LA MATINIERE DOMAINE DU CAILLOU

The tufa stone cellars of the Saumur region are home to many treasures. This rock also forms the soils of the appellation, which has expanded in recent years and is enjoying renewed interest since the rise of certain winegrowers. In red only, Saumur-Champigny produces fruity, generally light wines from Cabernet Franc (or Breton) in nine communes. The producers’ challenge to theDPO has led to major changes, including lower yields and longer ageing, resulting in more concentrated wines suitable for laying down.
