SAUMUR CHAMPIGNY DPO LES LOUPS NOIRS DOMAINE DE NERLEUX
19,40 € incl. VAT
Domaine de Nerleux is a family estate in the Loire Valley. The Nerleux, or “Black Wolves” in old French, have long since given way to vines, and Amélie Neau, the 9th generation of winemakers, has been at the helm since 2010.
The latest generation is represented by Amélie Neau who, in 2010, after ten years’ professional experience in the banking sector, answered the call of the land, her land. After training in viticulture and winemaking, she joined her parents, Elisabeth and Régis, on the estate. The handover was short-lived and Amélie quickly took over from her parents, who are now enjoying a well-deserved retirement.

Description
The colour is luminous and deep, with a dark garnet hue and delicate purplish tints, a sign of the great purity of the Cabernet Franc grapes. The nose delivers with great delicacy. Aromas of fresh, stewed red fruit and a hint of flowers, then very quickly the complexity develops with a touch of black fruit and fine woody-vanilla notes revealing that part of the cuvée has been matured in oak barrels. The taste impression is in the same vein as the nose: truly delicate. The attack is round, velvety and suave, with small, condensed tannins that consolidate this lovely structure and give it depth. Intense: flattering yet deep and lively, this Saumur-Champigny has an endearing personality with its complex flavours of ripe black fruit. Powerful and fresh. Aromas of red and black fruits, both fresh and cooked. A touch of spice, vanilla and wood, confirming the wine’s long, slow maturation in barrel. The attack on the palate is round, smooth and almost tender, confirming the very fine ripeness of the Cabernet Franc grapes. The wine’s structure is dense and well-balanced.

Wine tasting
The colour is purplish red with almost black highlights. The depth is strong, but the reflections are brilliant and of great purity.
On opening, the nose may seem discreet, but as soon as it is aired in the glass or, better still, in a decanter, the black fruits become established and take root in the nose (blackberries, black cherries, blackcurrants, etc.), followed by caramelised red fruits (strawberries, raspberries). The woody, vanilla aromas from its one-year ageing in 220-litre barrels confirm its density, breed and depth, without imposing themselves… just enhancing and sublimating the olfaction.
The palate is velvety, smooth and beautifully crafted The tannins are round, dense and enveloping.
Food & wine
Tasty red meats (rib of beef grilled with vine shoots, tournedos Rossini, shoulder of lamb with rosemary, etc.) Many prepared dishes: pot-au-feu, petit salé with lentils, etc. Small game birds (ducks, etc.) or large game animals (wild boar, roe deer, etc.)
Soft cheeses (Reblochon, Brie fermier)
